Antennas
For amateur radio operations, the USS Wisconsin Radio Club has installed two wire antennas on the ship and utilizes two of the ship’s original HF vertical antennas. These antennas are:
- 135 foot Carolina Windom
- 132 foot EFHW, 80m to 10m
- Ship’s starboard-side 40 foot vertical.
- Ship’s port-side 40 foot vertical.

Discone-Cage Antenna
The USS Wisconsin Radio Club doesn’t use the discone-cage antenna. This is due to the potential danger to the visiting public who, on the USS Wisconsin, have access to the bow area and could come in contact with radio frequency energy. Safety is always a primary concern. However, the bow discone-cage antenna, an iconic feature of all Iowa-class battleships, is used by some amateur radio clubs where access to the bow by the visiting public is restricted.
