Inovato Ham Clock
The USS Wisconsin Radio Club enhanced the modern radio compartment of station N4WIS with the installation of a dedicated HamClock display system. Club members installed an Inovato HamClock computer paired with a large television monitor, creating a highly visible, information-rich display within the historic setting of the battleship USS Wisconsin.
HamClock is a popular, customizable, open-source application designed specifically for amateur radio operators. It presents real-time operating data at a glance, including world maps showing daylight, darkness, and the grayline, along with space weather conditions, solar activity, and satellite tracking. These constantly updating visuals help operators understand how conditions above the Earth influence radio communication across the globe.
Among the many data layers displayed, the N4WIS HamClock shows live propagation paths from our WSPR station on the 20-meter band, allowing visitors to see exactly where low-power signals from the USS Wisconsin are being received around the world. This dynamic display transforms abstract radio concepts into something immediately understandable and engaging.
The HamClock has become one of the most popular features in the N4WIS radio room, frequently drawing visitors into conversations about propagation, space weather, and modern amateur radio technology. Adding a personal touch to the project, club member Caleb Hull (KK4EOT) designed and fabricated the custom mounting bracket for the television monitor in his machine shop, blending craftsmanship with technology in a way that reflects the club’s hands-on spirit.
