Ham Antennas

For amateur radio operations, the N4WIS Club members have installed two wire antennas, and also take advantage of two of the USS Wisconsin’s original HF vertical antennas.

The current antenna list:

  • 135′ Carolina Windom
  • 132′ EFHW-80-10
  • The ship’s Starboard side 40 foot Vertical
  • The ship’s Port side 40 foot Vertical

The discone-cage antenna mounted near the bow is not used by N4WIS at this time. This is due to the potential danger to the visiting public who, on the Wisconsin, have access to the bow area and could come in contact with RF. Safety is always a primary concern. However, the bow discone, an iconic feature of all Iowa-class battleships, is used by some amateur radio clubs where access to the bow by the visiting public is restricted
